A ballerina dances en pointe on a foggy pond, her hair a cascade of fire, a crescent moon drifting past on a dry leaf. Alex Fishgoyt's "The Fairy Tales of Hoffman" is inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann's "The Automaton", a meditation on obsession, idealization, and the blurred line between the mechanical and the human. Dreamlike, deeply layered, and unlike anything else.
